Green Awards 2024: Recognition for Sustainable IT Asset Disposal
DGD Technology is proud to have been recognised at the Green Awards 2024, Ireland’s foremost celebration of environmental leadership, sponsored by Bord na Móna. As part of the wider DGD group, our work in IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) and IT recycling reflects the same sustainability principles that earned the group both “Green Small Organisation of the Year 2024” and the overall “Best Green Business 2024” title, against a field of more than 200 organisations.
For the technology side of our business, that recognition carries particular meaning. Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world, and how end-of-life IT equipment is handled has a direct bearing on Ireland’s circular-economy goals. Our ITAD operation exists to keep value in circulation and material out of landfill.
What sustainable ITAD looks like at DGD
Our approach to IT recycling and asset recovery is built around a simple priority: reuse before recycling, recycling before disposal. In practice, that means:
- Maximising IT asset resale and refurbishment, extending the working life of equipment rather than prematurely destroying it.
- Recovering and reprocessing metals, plastics, and components in line with WEEE Directive obligations.
- Operating a strict zero-landfill policy across all processed material.
- Running an energy-efficient facility supported by solar and renewable energy.
- Pairing secure data destruction with responsible downstream recycling, so data security and environmental responsibility are never in tension.
Every device that comes through our doors is an opportunity to recover value and reduce the demand for raw materials, closing the loop on technology that would otherwise be lost.
A shared standard across the group
The Green Awards judges praised the organisation’s strategic blend of innovation and environmental responsibility, noting robust recycling practices, biodiversity initiatives, and active community involvement. While our sister operation in secure document shredding was central to that submission, the same ethos runs through our ITAD and IT recycling work. About the Green Awards
Since 2008, the Green Awards has been Ireland’s leading platform for sustainability leadership and innovation, putting a spotlight on businesses driving environmental change. Past overall winners include An Post, Gas Networks Ireland, and Hotel Doolin. Speaking to the Irish Times, Bord na Móna chief executive Tom Donnellan described the awards as recognition of the tangible action and innovative solutions helping Ireland reach its climate goals.
